Married to Colleen for 34 years; father of Katrina and Hayden, father in law of Bryan and adoring grandfather of Kyrie-Lee, Sam, Matthew and Thomas. In fact I have a plaque at home, which reads, “If I had known that Grandchildren were this much fun I would have had them first.”

What moves me?

I am motivated by positive people and really enjoy the people facing sales environment. Mike Pero Insurances follows a career of 22 years in BP Oil where I held a number of positions, in retail and then commercial activities of BP in New Zealand. My last role was that of National Commercial Fuels and Lubricants Manager where my focus was to lead a team of nine sales managers whose roles were to provide solutions to protect against business risk of crude oil price increases and exchange rate fluctuations and supply chain issues.

The latter role is the connection for what I do now; proposing solutions to protect against the associated financial risks and lifestyle continuance of our clients when health fails or even worse death is similar but much more important.

Prior to my BP career I spent two years as a dedicated Life risk representative of AMP based in the Wairarapa and prior to that, five years in various roles in the Bank of New Zealand.

I am true “Blue & Gold”. My extended family hails from Dunedin. Otago & Highlanders team from south of the Waitaki are my passion. I am unashamedly biased, but after a career playing senior rugby for 17 years was involved coaching at various club then representative, age group levels and have had the pleasure to be involved with many quality players who went on to become All Blacks, Super 14 players New Zealand Colts and Provincial Representatives

Now my sporting interests are in Lawn Bowls. I play for the Burnside Club in Christchurch which hosted the extremely successful World Bowls in 2008 and through that success has been re - appointed for the Tournament in 2016.
