Maria is one of the founders of Casper and started the organisation after the loss of her only son, Toran. Today Maria is focused on awareness and prevention of suicide. Maria believes that this will be achieved by educating and building cohesion in families and communities. Each week 11 New Zealanders (on average) will take their own lives. New Zealand has the highest rate of youth suicide in the developed world. Maria works with a very small team who strive to assist and support grieving families, run community education and work with researchers to identify effective suicide prevention strategies. There’s a desperate need for more resource and most of Maria’s work is based around fundraising to increase awareness and to save lives. She has an MBA and runs Casper like a small business on a powerful mission. Maria is the face and the CEO of Casper.
More about Greg Murphy
Greg Murphy is New Zealand’s best known name in V8 SuperCars - both here and in Australia. He has won the Bathurst 1000 four times and has achieved numerous other wins and podiums in the series. He first started racing at the age of eight and hasn’t stopped since. Now a Dad in his late thirties with a wife, two boys and a daughter, his professional career allows him to re–enter the New Zealand scene with the new V8 SuperTourer Series. “Murph” as he is affectionately known, won the inaugural round of the new series that started in February 2012. Murph has an absolute commitment to Casper and is proud to promote suicide awareness in an effort to drive down the needless loss of lives in New Zealand.
More about Mike Pero
Mike founded his mortgage business in 1991 and has remained a part of the brand ever since. Mike has a history in Motorsport – he was six times New Zealand Motorcycle Road Racing Champion before going on to race jetskis, V8 Touring Cars and V8 Utes. Today Mike is the Chief Executive and major shareholder of Mike Pero Real Estate. At the same time Mike finds time and resource to support Greg Murphy in the V8 SuperTourer. Mike’s chosen charity is Casper and he’s keen to see the number of fatalities decrease as soon as possible. Mike has been instrumental in bringing the Casper brand to the general audience through the unique structure of this motorsport, corporate and charity structure. Mike is a trustee of Casper.
