Established in 1990, Mike Pero Mortgages is New Zealand's largest mortgage broking company. We have offices in Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Gisborne, New Plymouth, Hawkes Bay, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough, Christchurch, Timaru, Queenstown, Alexandra and Dunedin.

Each year, our advisers process in excess of $1 billion in loans. Since we opened our doors, we've helped more than 70,000 New Zealanders into their homes.

Not surprisingly, Mike Pero Mortgages has become a household name. In a survey conducted by Colmar Brunton (Sept 09) 51% of New Zealanders who could name a mortgage adviser said Mike Pero Mortgages was the first name that came to mind.

Mike Pero - Founder & Director

Mike Pero established Mike Pero Mortgages in 1990.  Already a very successful businessman and sportsman, Mike built Mike Pero Mortgages into a national organisation which has become the leading arranger of home loans in New Zealand.  While Mike Pero has stepped back from the day-to-day running of the business, he remains a Director of the company, and is still involved in marketing and promotion of the Mike Pero Mortgages’ brand.

  Mark Thornton - Executive Director

Mark has over 31 years experience in the banking and finance industry in New Zealand. He initially joined Bank of New Zealand and gained experience in areas of retail banking then moving to managerial roles in commercial and corporate banking for 18 years up until 1992. He then moved to ASB Bank Limited taking up a management role in ASB’s commercial division up until 2000 when he left to take up full time employment with New Zealand Finance Limited. During his banking career he focused on all facets of lending assessment to a wide range of business from the major corporates to medium to small sized companies.  Mark is a founding director of NZF Group Limited and his current responsibilities within NZF include Chief Executive Officer, responsible for business development activities and lending evaluation and assessment and the credit approval process.
 

Sherman Ma - Director

Sherman Ma is the founder and Managing Director of Liberty Financial.  Having introduced specialty lending in Australia in January 1997, Sherman has since built the company to include operations across Australia and New Zealand with various business lines including residential mortgage lending, motor vehicle finance and commercial mortgage lending.  Prior to establishing Liberty, Sherman was a fixed income analyst with Credit Suisse First Boston in Wall Street’s top rated Mortgage Backed Securities and Asset Backed Securities team.  He also worked with McKinsey & Company as a management consultant advising at the executive level on operational and strategic direction.  Sherman has portfolio management and derivatives experience with BlackRock Financial Management and Merrill Lynch. Sherman has an MBA from the Wharton School and was first-in-class in Economics and Operations Research from the University of Pennsylvania.
