The statement below is a summary of the policies employed by Mike Pero (New Zealand) Ltd and Mike Pero Mortgages Ltd, our Authorised Bodies, and our Advisers (together ‘Mike Pero’), including how we comply with the Privacy Act 2020 and its amendments, including Information Privacy Principle 3A (IPP3A).
What personally identifiable information does Mike Pero collect from me?
If you contact Mike Pero, we will keep a record of that communication. For example, Mike Pero occasionally asks clients to complete surveys or invites participation in competitions.
When you make an enquiry through our website, we will collect your name and contact details. If you use our services to apply for a financial service, we will collect the information necessary for your application, which may include employment, financial and lifestyle information.
Information we collect indirectly
In some circumstances, we collect personal information from a source other than directly from you. This is known as indirect collection. When we do this, we will take reasonable steps to ensure you are made aware of the relevant matters set out below, unless an exemption applies.
We may collect personal information indirectly from sources such as but not limited to:
- credit reporting agencies (for example, when assessing your creditworthiness);
- lenders or financial institutions;
- your employer or accountant (for income and employment verification);
- publicly available sources (for example, the Companies Office register or Land Information New Zealand); or
- our referral partners.
When we collect personal information indirectly, we will take reasonable steps to notify you of the fact that your personal information has been collected, the purpose of the collection, who will receive your personal information, our name and contact details, whether the collection is required or authorised by law and your right to access and correct your information. This notification will occur as soon as reasonably practicable after collection, through your Adviser or through a separate notice issued to you.
We may be legally required to collect your personal information
The law sometimes requires us to collect your information. For example, if you apply for financial services, we may need to collect your personal information under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 to prove your identity and confirm your tax residency status under tax legislation.
Where we are legally required to collect information, including where that information is collected indirectly from a third party on our behalf, we will advise you of this and of the relevant legal authority for that collection.
